      Tracking Software Installs

      Standard Cookie & Pixel Tracking for Software Installs

      Purpose: Easily track software download and installs from a landing page.

      Requirements: For software installs that rely on a browser at the end of the software installation.

      Accuracy: Acceptable

      Ease of Setup: Easy

      Setup:

      1. Generate affiliate creative and link to landing page for software install.
      2. Give affiliate their unique link.
      3. Set up the landing page with the tracking pixel on the URL.Step 1:Generate affiliate creative and link to landing page for software install.

      Process:

      1. Consumer clicks on affiliate creative.
      2. Affiliate pixel tells LinkTrust to place a cookie on the consumer's browser.
      3. The consumer is sent to the page where they can download the software.
      4. The consumer installs the software and opens it.
      5. The first time the consumer opens the software a browser window opens with a tracking pixel in the URL.
      6. The tracking pixel in the URL notifies LinkTrust of a conversion.
      7. LinkTrust looks for the matching cookie on the browser and completes the tracking process.
      8. View the campaign, banner, affiliate and sub id that generated the install.

      Server Side Tracking for Software Installs

       

      Requirements: For software installs that don't require the use of a browser to finish the software installation.

      Accuracy: High

      Ease of Setup: Advanced

      Setup:

      1. Generate affiliate creative and link to landing page for software install.
      2. Give affiliate their unique link.
      3. Set up the Click ID postback on the landing page URL using a landing page token.

      Process:

      1. Consumer clicks on affiliate creative.
      2. LinkTrust assigns a Click ID* to that click.
      3. Consumer is sent to page where they can download the software.
      4. LinkTrust adds the Click ID to the end of the URL on the software download page.
      5. The offer owner (advertiser) needs to capture and pass that click ID into the software upon download. This is ONLY possible if the downloadable file is compiled on the fly.**
      6. The software is installed and opened and the server postback URL includes the Transaction ID value.
      7. View the campaign, banner, affiliate and sub id that generated the install.

      *The Click ID is very secure because it can only be used once within the time frame of the configured cookie life.

      **If the software can be dynamically compiled upon request, you can include the Click ID unique to the user in that customized file.
