How Do I Place/Setup A Server-Side Pixel?
Since there are two different server side pixel methods, we'll explain when to use each. Server side pixels are called 'Click ID Pixel Post or Postback' or 'AFID Pixel Post or Postback'. These pixel posts can occur within the code of the confirmation page (Client side) or from a back office server (Server side).
Click ID Postback
The Click ID Pixel Post is the most secure form of creating a transaction from a server side pixel because it requires a valid click ID which can only be generated by LinkTrust when a consumer clicks through a tracking link. This feature is enabled by default within the campaign settings.
To create a Click ID server side pixel code:
- Open the Link Generator and select the campaign.
- Click 'Generate Link(s)'.
- Select Click ID Pixel Post. Dynamically appending a Click ID to the pixel code URL is all that is needed to track or create a sale.
Note: If you are using a Click ID Pixel Post, ensure that the click ID is passed to the advertiser on their landing page URL so they can append it to the pixel code URL when a sale occurs.
AFID Postback
The Affiliate ID Pixel Post is less secure but more flexible for creating a transaction from a server side pixel because it does not require a click ID. It only requires a valid Affiliate ID. This feature must be enabled within the campaign settings before you can use it.
To create an AFID server side pixel code:
- Enable this option within the campaign settings. (Allow AFID Postbacks, located under Tracking Options)
- Open the Link Generator.
- Select a campaign and affiliate.
- Click 'Generate Link(s)'.
- Select Affiliate ID Pixel Post. Dynamically appending an Affiliate ID to the pixel code URL is all that is needed to track or create a sale.
