Return Settings
Sometimes a buyer will want to return leads after they already accepted them in real time. The "Returns" page in campaign settings allows you to control this ability.
Allow lead returns up to X days
Enter the maximum number of days which can pass before a lead can not be returned. LinkTrust will enforce this when a buyer attempts to return a lead. This option can be over ridden by a user if a return is performed within the Partner Center.
Return Lead URL
Send this URL to your advertiser if you wish for them to be able to return leads.
Sample Return HTML
Use this sample HTML on your own site or give it to an advertiser if they want to embed the return form into a website. This is great if you want to customize or private label the return page for advertisers within your website.
*Note: Make sure that you have configured this page completely and updated it prior to copying this code because the code can change depending on whether you allow custom return reasons or enforce lead return reasons.
Return Reasons
If you want an advertiser to have the flexibility to return a lead for any reason, enable the "Allow Advertiser to enter custom lead return reason" option. Otherwise, if you want to restrict an advertiser to select from a list of reasons, select the "Enforce lead return reason from list". The list of reasons can be customized when selected.
Returning a Lead
Returning a lead will remove the commission from the affiliate and the revenue for the advertiser generated when the lead was sold. LinkTrust will check to ensure that returning the lead does not violate your return settings for the campaign, however, you can override the settings if you need to.
Returning a lead which was sold only one time (exclusive)
When returning a lead which has only been sold once (Generated a single Qualified transaction/Conversion), the single channel which accepted the lead needs to be returned. This will effect the overall revenue from the advertiser and commission for the affiliate.
Returning a lead which was sold multiple times (semi-exclusive)
In order to completely return a lead which was sold multiple times, each channel which accepted the lead must be returned. Once every channel has had the return processed, the lead record will be considered 'Returned' in full. When a channel is returned, the amount of commissions and revenue is removed from the lead. This will effect the overall revenue from the advertiser and commission for the affiliate.
Returning Leads in Bulk
If you have a lot of leads to return, you can return them in bulk in two ways:
Use a server post to return leads
This method allows you to post a return directly to the 'Returns' page URL without having to manually enter the Return ID and select a Reason via the user interface. A server can automate this process by passing the Return ID and Reason in a form post to the URL of the page.
To post lead returns to the page:
- Use the page URL as the location to post the lead return. This is the URL that you see at the top of the 'Returns' page (located in your browser). e.g. http://Domain_Here/Lead/Campaign_ID_Here/Return?Response=auto
- Pass the Return ID with the field name "ReturnID"
- Pass the Reason for the return with the field name "ReturnReason"
- Make sure that your return reason matches the values exactly that are available in the dropdown if there is a dropdown on the page.
Use the LinkTrust Lead Poster desktop application to return leads
This method allows you to post a return directly from your PC desktop by installing the LinkTrust Lead Poster application on your computer, then selecting a file which contains the return information. The Lead Poster contacts LinkTrust and requests a return for each lead located on each line of the file.
1. Download and install the Lead Poster PC desktop application.
2. Put your returns in a Tab delimited file format so the Lead Poster can communicate the information to LinkTrust. Note: It's easier to use Excel or any spreadsheet program to enter the data and save it in Tab Delimited format.
- The header row of the file should contain:
- ReturnID
- ReturnReason
- Each row of the CSV file should contain the Return ID and Return Reason of each lead to be returned.
- Make sure that your return reason matches the values exactly that are available in the dropdown if there is a dropdown on the page.
3. Select the file within the Lead Poster application.
4. Enter the URL that you see at the top of the 'Returns' page (located in your browser). e.g. http://Domain_Here/Lead/Campaign_ID_Here/Return?Response=auto
5. Start posting lead returns!
