Simple Post vs. Secure Post

Simple post (Option A)

This is the simplest and most common method for submitting a lead. It requires that all system data fields (Affiliate ID, Sub ID, Creative ID, and Affiliate Reference ID) be posted as separate values. A campaign ID does not need to be posted since that ID already exists within the Post URL itself. Most affiliates and lead forms use this simple method. See the diagram below.

Advantages:

  • Simplest method to send data because NO pre-action or click is required before submitting the lead.
  • Great for automated lead submissions where there is no live consumer traffic.

Disadvantages:

  • No security to ensure that the lead submitted actually came from consumers.
  • Traffic to the landing page is not tied to the lead form, so lead fraud is a strong possibility.
  • Quality of leads can be effected without notice because any traffic source is allowed to create a lead.
  • Allows external servers to post leads with no actual consumer present.
  • No fraud filtering for Proxies, Geographic area etc.
  • Can easily harm relationships with lead buyers because true quality can not be assessed prior to leads being sold.

Secure post (Option B)

This is the securest method for submitting leads because it requiring all system data fields to be posted individually, a consumer fingerprint created by LinkTrust must be submitted with each lead.  A fingerprint is created when a consumer clicks a LinkTrust tracking link and redirected to an authorized form page.  Leads submitted without a fingerprint are filtered or sent to specific buyers.

Advantages:

  • Ensures that each lead submitted originated from a consumer who actually clicked on an authorized creative.
  • Ensures that each lead submitted originated from a consumer who actually submitted the lead from an authorized website or form.
  • Lead quality is increased and potential fraud is reduced.
  • Consumer traffic to affiliate Host and Post sites can be monitored and filtered in real-time.
  • Fraud filtering for Proxies, Geographic area etc before a lead is even created.
  • Allows external servers to post leads with no actual consumer present.
  • Protects relationships with buyers by ensuring higher quality leads

Disadvantages:

  • Requires that a click ID be captured by the lead form page and stored as a 'hidden field'.
