Duplicate Impressions and Clicks

The Duplicate Impressions and Clicks section lets you determine how duplicate traffic is handled. Before you specify how duplicate traffic is handled, you should understand the following:

  • Unique impressions
  • Unique clicks
  • How to Manage Duplicate Traffic

Unique Impressions

A unique impression is an impression that does not have the same IP address as any other impression found within a specific time frame specified in the settings. Campaigns may be configured to record affiliate’s unique impressions instead of total impressions. When enabled, only unique impressions will be counted in the Impressions column in reports.

The uniqueness of an impression can be valid for days, hours, or minutes.

Unique Click

A unique click is a consumer click from a computer that does not contain a cookie on it. A click is only considered unique if a cookie is not found for the campaign on the consumer’s computer.

Campaigns can be configured to combine or separate unique and duplicate clicks. The setting to separate unique and duplicate clicks is enabled at the campaign level. When the setting to separate unique from duplicate clicks is enabled, all unique clicks are recorded in the Click column and all duplicate clicks are recorded in the Duplicate Clicks column.

Conversions Fraud Control

The Conversions Fraud Control section allows you to set fraud control settings to better prevent fraud in your campaign. If a transaction matches any of these settings, the transaction will be considered an unapproved transaction and the affiliate will not receive credit for the conversion.

*Note: Conversions Fraud Control only applies to CPA/CPL campaigns. If you are in a CPC campaign, you will not see the Conversions Fraud Control section.

To set the fraud control settings for the campaign, do the following:

  1. If you want to block traffic that have mismatched click IP addresses and conversion IP addresses, mark Unapprove transactions when the Click and Conversion IP's don't match.
  2. If you want to block IP addresses from a known public Proxy, mark Unapprove transactions when the IP is from a public proxy.

If traffic comes in from a known public proxy, the affiliate will not receive credit for that transaction.

1. If you want to look for conversions that occur in less time than the campaign requires, do the following:

  • Mark Unapprove transactions when the Click to Conversion time is less than.
  • In the Unapprove transactions when the Click to Conversion time is less than field, enter the appropriate number.
  • From the drop-down field, select Minute(s) or Second(s). For example, if you know that it takes five minutes for a transaction to convert, set your conversion time at less than four minutes. So, if a transaction converts in less than four minutes, the affiliate will not receive credit for it. This allows you to detect automated transactions.

2. If you do not want to track duplicate merchant reference IDs from the last 90 days, mark Do not track transactions with Duplicate Merchant Reference IDs within the last 90 days.

  • *Note: This option requires a merchant reference ID.

3. If you want to block traffic when the confirmation pages do not match, mark Unapprove transactions when the Confirmation Page domain does not match.

4. In the field, enter each valid domain for the campaign.

  • *Note: Make sure each domain is entered in on separate lines.

When the confirmation pixel fires on the confirmation page, the confirmation page sends back the page refer. If the page refer does not match the domain listed in the field, the affiliate will not receive credit for that transaction.

Promo Code Enforcement

The Promo Code Enforcement option allows you to better manage your promotional codes for the campaign. This enforcement feature applies to all affiliates assigned to this campaign. You have the choice to unapprove transactions or not track transactions with specific promotional codes based on your white list or black list of promotional codes. This section allows you to create a promotional code white list or black list and then allows you to determine how transactions are handled based on those lists.

For example, there is three valid promotional codes for this campaign. You want to restrict all other promotional codes from being used. Under Promo Code Enforcement, the promo code enforcement option would read as follows:

Unapprove transactions when Promo Code is not (White List) on of the following: enter the valid promo codes in the field.

Now only transactions with the specified promotional code are approved for the campaign. By default, all transactions without a promotional code are always approved. This feature only applies to transactions with a promotional code.

*Note: Each promotional code must be entered on a separate line.

*Note: Creating a promo code black list under Promo Code Enforcement disables your affiliate promo code white list created on the affiliate campaign page for this campaign.

To set up Promo Code Enforcement, do the following:

1. Mark the box under Promo Code Enforcement.

2. From the first drop-down menu, select Unapprove or Do not track.

3. From the second drop-down menu, select is not (White List) or is (Black List).

    • From the top menu, select Affiliate.
    • From the left menu, select Search.
    • On the Affiliate Search page, search for the affiliate you want to create a white list for.
    • From the search results table, select Affiliate Details.
    • From the left menu, select Campaigns.
    • Under the campaign you wish to create a white list for, select Campaign Edit.
    • On the Assigned Campaign Edit page under Promo Code White List, enter the allowed promo codes for this affiliate of this campaign.
      • *Note: Each promotional code must be entered on a separate line.

5. Select Update.

In order for the promo code to work, you must place this parameter in the confirmation pixel: promocode=(Promo Code being used).
